Gordon Apartments

Where: Strawberry Mansion, North Philadelphia

Gordon Apartments is another example of PHA’s ability to work with the city to strengthen Philadelphia’s neighborhoods by developing vacant land and distressed properties into affordable housing.

Completed in 2015 shortly after a similar effort called Oakdale Apartments, Gordon Apartments features five three-bedroom townhomes, two three-bedroom flats, 12 two-bedroom townhomes, and two two-bedroom flats. Two of the units are handicapped accessible and one unit will be for the hearing impaired.

The development has transformed a long-vacant corner block parcel at West Gordon, North 30th and Arizona Street. The development project created 50 jobs, including 42 for low- and very low-income residents of the community through Section 3, a designation PHA uses to provide economic opportunities to low-income and public housing residents in areas where a HUD-assisted project are located.

Gordon Apartments was the second of three PHA developments planned for the neighborhood that will eventually transform other vacant parcels into new affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood.
